Toto Wolf: “Imagine today’s Formula 1 without Max Verstappen. Fewer crashes, fewer penalties? Almost certainly. But also a lot more boring. Because Max is one of the best drivers in Formula 1 history,” and Verstappen responded within five minutes!

In a surprisingly candid interview, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff spoke about Max Verstappen, the three-time world champion for Red Bull Racing. His words immediately caused a stir in the paddock: “Imagine today’s Formula 1 without Max Verstappen. Fewer crashes, fewer penalties? Almost certainly. But also a lot more boring. Because Max is one of the best drivers in Formula 1 history.”

Wolff’s statement came as a surprise, especially given the tense relationship between Mercedes and Red Bull in recent years. The fiercely contested 2021 title race, in which Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton battled for the championship until the final lap, left deep scars. But Wolff now appears to be openly showing his appreciation for the Dutchman – albeit not without a slightly cynical undertone.

Verstappen reacts very quickly

What no one expected was that Verstappen responded to Wolff’s words on social media within five minutes of them being published. His short but clear message:
“Without Toto, it would be quieter. But quiet is boring.”

Max Verstappen: 2023, the season of all records

The reaction went viral. Fans and analysts were astonished by the speed and sharpness of Verstappen’s comeback. Some saw it as a playful jab at Wolff, others as a sign that Max is aware of his polarizing role in the sport.

Wolff and Verstappen: respect among rivals?

Despite the rivalry, there also seems to be a growing mutual respect. In the interview, Wolff acknowledged not only Verstappen’s talent but also his influence on the sport’s appeal.
“He’s uncompromising, fierce, and sometimes on the edge – but that’s what makes him spectacular. And that’s what we need,” said the Austrian.

The comment about “fewer crashes and penalties” likely refers to Verstappen’s aggressive driving style, which has earned him both admiration and criticism. But his dominance in recent seasons is undeniable: since 2021, he has won over 50 races and broken records that once seemed untouchable.

F1 without Max? Unbelievable

The thought of Formula 1 without Verstappen seems unthinkable. Despite his young age (27), he has already left a lasting mark on the sport. And while rumors continue to surface about a possible sabbatical or move to another team, Verstappen seems determined: “I’ll stay as long as I enjoy it – and that’s probably the case for a while.”

The exchange between Wolff and Verstappen underscores once again why Formula 1 is so much more than just racing. It’s drama, rivalry, and above all: personalities that make the difference. And Max Verstappen is currently at the heart of that.
