An “alien” mummy with only 3-fingered arms and legs was discovered in Peru, once rejected by the scientific community as a hoax. But a new study provides important information.
Analysis results show that the mummy has a biological structure similar to humans but has some differences in anatomical and morphological characteristics.
Image analysis results of the mummy named “Maria” show that the mummy has many biological similarities with humans but still has some basic differences, according to Daily Mail.
The research team of Peruvian scientists also determined the age of the mummy to be from 240 to 383, belonging to the period of the ancient Nazca civilization.
Maria’s mummy, number M01, is one of six mummies found in a tomb in Nazca, a city in southern Peru in 2017. In addition to Maria, the tomb also contained the mummies of a 9-month-old child and 4 men. grandfather.
Reporter and UFO researcher Jaime Maussan once brought some of these mummies to display in the Mexican Congress, claiming that this was evidence of “aliens”.
The mummy’s unusually long skull was determined to have no signs of external impact.
In 2018, after at least four independent analyzes, scientists concluded that these were modified pre-Columbian mummies. But this result did not stop Maussan and other researchers from continuing to learn.
The latest research was conducted by a group of Peruvian scientists on Maria’s mummy, Daily Mail reported. They carried out examinations in a magnified manner, allowing them to examine what was inside the mummy. Researchers noticed that Maria’s mummy lacked hair and ears. The mummy is said to have only the ear canal.
Researcher Edgar Hernàndez-Huaripaucar from the National University of San Luis Gonzaga said the most notable feature of the mummy’s skull is its exceptional length but no signs of external compression. The cranial vault shows unusual growth and development, with an elongated shape from back to front. In addition, the skull volume is 30% larger than that of a normal person. The mummy’s hand structure has three fingers and has an unusual length.
CT scans revealed that the mummy had bulging eyes and protruding upper and lower jaw bones. The mummy lacks 6 teeth compared to a normal person while other teeth are severely worn.
One of the other unusual features about the mummy that the team noticed was in the hands and feet. The width of the bones at the base of the three fingers is uniform, making the hand as wide as a human hand but up to 20cm longer. Each finger on the hand has 4 phalanges, different from the 3 phalanges in normal people. The mummy’s feet also have similar unusual features.
Compared to normal human feet, the mummy’s heel bone has a different shape and structure. Normally, the human heel bone has a large hump at the back to help support body weight and maintain balance when standing upright on both feet. However, mummy Maria’s heel bone does not have this hump, meaning the mummy can only walk in a hunched position. The mummy only has three fingers and feet instead of five like normal people.
New research also found that the mummy was coated in white powder. This natural powder is not harmful to humans but is used in pesticides because it kills insects through dehydration. This powder may have been used during the embalming process.
“Based on the analysis results, it can be concluded that specimen M01 is a human body that has undergone a process similar to mummification, with a biological structure similar to a human but with many differences in anatomical characteristics. surgery and morphology”, the research team concluded.
