Max Verstappen reveals travel plans with girlfriend Kelly after the Hungarian Grand Prix – but Jos intervenes harshly with a strict five-word order that deeply impacts his son’s private life

After an intense race weekend at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen seemed ready to shake off the tension. The Dutch Formula 1 star, known for his focus and dedication on the track, decided to take some time off with his girlfriend Kelly Piquet and their close circle of friends. Immediately after the race at the Hungaroring, Max discreetly but clearly indicated that he planned to take a short break at a private destination outside Europe, far from the constant media pressure and team commitments.

What seemed like an innocent break for relaxation and romance quickly became the center of an unexpected family conflict. Jos Verstappen, the father and former F1 driver known for his dominant role in his son’s career, reportedly intervened immediately. According to sources close to the family, Jos uttered only five words to Max in an icy tone:  “You’re not going anywhere, now.” This short but powerful message left no room for discussion.

Jos’s intervention came as a surprise, especially since Max has increasingly tried to forge his own path in recent years, both professionally and personally. Sources close to Red Bull report that Jos was concerned about Max’s focus and felt this was no time to relax, especially with crucial races approaching and the tension in the championship rising.

The unexpected intervention caused tension within the family, with even Kelly Piquet being sensitive to the situation. Although Max usually refrains from public statements about his private life, an insider noted that he was “visibly irritated” by his father’s behavior and that the incident “caused more damage than it appears at first glance.”

Fans are divided on the situation. Some praise Jos for his dedication and vigilance over his son’s career, while others believe he has clearly overstepped the mark on parental interference. Social media reacted en masse, with hashtags like #LaatMaxLeven and #TeamKelly trending in the Netherlands and Brazil, where Kelly Piquet is from.

Meanwhile, Red Bull Racing has refused to officially comment on the incident, but according to internal sources, they are exploring ways to prevent the personal tensions from spilling over into the sporting arena. Helmut Marko, a Red Bull advisor, has reportedly already scheduled meetings with both Max and Jos to prevent further escalation.

Although Max seems to have regained his focus on the upcoming race in Belgium, the aftermath of this incident continues to reverberate. The question now hanging over the Formula 1 field is not only whether Max Verstappen will dominate the championship again, but also whether he will ultimately succeed in forging his own course – free from his father’s shadow.
