Max Verstappen Radio Message Has F1 Fans Convinced Red Bull Has Savage Dig Targeting Mercedes

Verstappen, 27, will start on pole at Silverstone this afternoon as he looks to reduce the deficit between himself and the McLaren duo of Championship Leaders Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris at the British Grand Prix. Of course, the Red Bull driver has been strongly linked with a move to Mercedes in recent times for the 2026 F1 campaign. During qualifying, there was a mouthwatering moment that dropped a major hint about the Dutch driver.

Verstappen has a remarkable F1 record, having won the Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. At just 27 years old, he still has a long and exciting career ahead of him.

The move was supposedly inspired by the design of the iconic Mercedes C111 cars that were unveiled to the public in the 1960s and 1970s, but some fans saw it as a brazen dig at Verstappen’s tyres.

Some fans are now saying that Verstappen’s engineer Gianpiero Lambiase made a veiled response to the move over his team radio. After Verstappen secured pole position, Lambiase got on the radio to tell the Dutch star that he was “going motor racing.” RBR daily @Rbr_daily Follow GP to max after pole position: “You went motor racing, max” 10:15 PM · Jul 5, 2025 17.6k Reply Copy link Some believe the phrase was a reference to comments made by Michael Masi to Wolff during the controversial 2021 campaign. “No ways he said that,” one account posted in the replies. “Toto was later found mumbling, shaking, crying and rocking in the corner,” another posted. “Had me dying doing that,” said another account.
