Former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who served under the Biden administration, suggested in a lengthy X thread that President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire agreement was based on the one developed by the Biden administration.

Blinken gives his analysis of how the Trump administration was able to achieve the historic peace agreement, suggesting that Middle Eastern nations have had enough of Hamas and that Israel had effectively destroyed Hamas as “an organized military force.” He goes on to mention that the Biden administration had briefly secured a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in January, leading to the release of 135 hostages.

But that cease-fire fell apart just months later. He then poses the question as to how the Trump administration can ensure that this ceasefire will bring permanent peace.

“It starts with a clear and comprehensive post conflict plan for Gaza,” Blinken wrote.

“It’s good that President Trump adopted and built on the plan the Biden Administration developed after months of discussion with Arab partners, Israel and the Palestinian Authority.”

“It centers on temporary, transitional authorities for Gaza’s governance, security, humanitarian assistance, and rebuilding, led by Arab and international partners alongside Palestinians, backed by the United States, and ultimately handed over to full Palestinian control,” Blinken continued.

A reporter read Blinken’s social media post to Trump aboard Air Force One and asked for his response. Trump went on a rant, suggesting that Biden was also responsible for the Russian Ukraine conflict.

“Everybody knows it’s a joke,” Trump said. “Look, they did such a bad job. This should have never happened.”

“If a just a decent president — not a great president like me — if a decent President was in, you wouldn’t have had the Russia Ukraine. And this is, I would say even more so this was bad policy by Biden and by Obama.”

President Donald Trump is in Egypt, working out the second phase of the ceasefire which will be centered on Gaza’s postwar governance.
