Immediately after the Belgian Grand Prix, where he once again demonstrated his superiority on the track, Max Verstappen chose a completely different path than expected. Instead of immersing himself in the glitz and glamour, he declined all invitations to parties, media appearances, and international shows. Quietly, and without any media support, he returned to the modest primary school in Limburg where his boyhood dream had begun.

The school, located in a small village near his childhood home, played a crucial role in Verstappen’s early life. As a child, he drew racing cars in his notebooks and told his teacher he would grow up to be “the fastest in the world.” No one suspected then that the boy would one day become a multiple Formula 1 world champion.
What makes the event even more impressive is what Verstappen did there. He handed over the entire €45 million prize money to the school board, with the request that it be used to renovate the infrastructure, hire additional teachers, and provide additional support to underprivileged children in the region. The plan also includes a technology and science wing, where students can discover their passion—just as Max once did with racing.
On a simple chalkboard in the main building, Verstappen left a message that touched the hearts of many:
“Every success starts here.”
The reactions weren’t long in coming. Former teachers and fellow students tearfully spoke of their memories of young Max. “He was quiet, but focused. Always racing. And now he’s doing this for the new generation… it’s incredible,” said one former teacher, emotionally.
The news spread like wildfire across social media and news websites worldwide. Thousands of messages poured in from fans, parents, teachers, and even rival drivers. Many praised Verstappen not only for his talent, but especially for his character and humility.
International sports media, from the BBC to ESPN, ran the headline: “Verstappen shows true greatness off the track.” Within hours, the action was hailed as one of the most human and inspiring moments in modern F1 history.
For Max himself, however, it wasn’t a publicity stunt. In a brief statement, he said:
“Without this place, I could never have dreamed of it, let alone won. This is my way of saying thank you.”
With this act, Max Verstappen proved that true champions not only win on the track, but especially in the hearts of the people.
