Diogo Jota was living a “happy time” before his tragic death.

Jota, 28, died in a car accident with his brother André Silva when their car, a Lamborghini, left the road with a flat tire while overtaking another vehicle and caught fire.

Before the accident, the attacker had spoken to the president of Gondomar while driving to Zamora, Spain.

Gondomar SC president Álvaro Cerqueira was reportedly one of the last people Diogo Jota spoke to before the tragedy – he had spoken to the Liverpool star just hours before his death.
“It was a little after 10pm last night, we were talking on the phone and he was fine,” the president of the club where Jota began his development and took his first steps towards becoming a world-renowned player told JN.

Cerqueira and Jota had regular conversations: “We spoke almost every week and I knew he was having a lot of fun,” she added.
Although Jota played for Liverpool and André Silva joined Penafiel in the last two seasons, the São Miguel stadium pitch has always been at the brothers’ disposal.
When Diogo needed to train during the off-season, he would ask to come here, and we always provided him with all the necessary equipment. His brother would also come, and they would both train together.

Saddened by the loss of two friends, the president of Gondomar SC preferred not to add anything: “It is difficult to speak at a time like this, but what will remain is the image of two very humble people, who leave a huge void.”
